BPM Finder
BPM Finder is a free online tempo finder that detects the exact beats per minute and the musical key of any song. Upload an MP3, WAV, FLAC, M4A or other audio file for automatic BPM and key detection, or tap along to the beat to measure the tempo by hand. No signup and no download.
How to find the BPM of a song
- 1
Upload your song
Drop an audio file onto the uploader or choose one from your device. MP3, WAV, FLAC, AAC, M4A, OGG, Opus, WebM and AIFF files up to 50 MB are supported.
- 2
Get the BPM and key
The tool tracks every beat in the song and returns the tempo in beats per minute, its half-time and double-time values, the musical key and a profile of the notes heard in the track.
- 3
Check it by tapping
Open Tap tempo and tap the button, or press Space or Enter, on every beat. After four taps the tempo is measured from all of your taps.
- 4
Copy the result
Copy the BPM, the key or both, then use them to set your DAW project tempo, beatmatch a DJ mix, sync loops or set your metronome.
Why knowing a song's BPM matters
Tempo is the backbone of a track. DJs match BPM to beatmix cleanly between songs, producers set their DAW project tempo before recording, and musicians use BPM to practice at the right speed. Knowing the exact beats per minute lets you sync drum loops, quantize MIDI and build seamless transitions.
Automatic detection vs. tap tempo
Automatic detection follows every beat in the recording, which is ideal for songs with a steady pulse. Tap tempo is a manual check that works for live recordings, rubato passages and songs where the beat is quiet, and it shows the tempo you feel rather than the one in the audio.
BPM and key together
Knowing both the tempo and the key tells you which songs will mix well: DJs pair tracks with close BPMs and compatible keys, and producers use them to choose samples and loops that fit a project.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find the BPM of a song?
Upload the song to the BPM Finder and it detects the tempo and key automatically, or open Tap tempo and tap along to the beat to measure the beats per minute by hand.
How does the BPM detection work?
A neural network marks where beats are likely in the audio, a beat tracker follows them through the whole song, and the tempo is measured from the spacing of every detected beat. That gives an exact BPM for songs with a steady tempo.
Why do I sometimes get double or half the BPM?
A song can be counted at different levels of its pulse: a 70 BPM ballad has eighth notes at 140. The tool picks the level its tempo analysis rates strongest and also shows the half-time and double-time values, so you can use whichever matches how you count the song.
Does it find the key of the song too?
Yes. Every upload also returns the song's key, such as A minor or Bb major, with a confidence score and a chart of how strongly each note is heard. A low confidence usually means the song changes key or has no clear tonal center.
What audio formats are supported?
MP3, WAV, FLAC, AAC, M4A, OGG, Opus, WebM and AIFF files up to 50 MB.
Is my audio uploaded or stored?
Your file is sent to our server for analysis and deleted as soon as the result is ready. It isn't stored or shared. Tap tempo runs entirely in your browser.
Why does it say there's no steady beat?
Some recordings, such as ambient pieces, drones, speech or free-tempo passages, have no regular pulse to measure, so the tool says so instead of guessing. If you can hear a beat, tap along to it with Tap tempo.
Is a BPM finder the same as a tempo finder?
Yes. BPM (beats per minute) is the unit that measures tempo, so a BPM finder and a tempo finder are the same tool.
Is this BPM finder free?
Yes. The BPM finder is completely free with no account, no download and no usage limits.
